Egypt's Argentina Clash Drew 192.6 Million Viewers — Second Only to the World Cup Final.

Only the World Cup final drew more eyeballs in the Middle East and North Africa. Egypt's round-of-16 battle against Argentina — a match that came agonisingly close to eliminating the defending champions — pulled in 192.6 million viewers on beIN SPORTS, ranking it the second most-watched broadcast of the entire 2026 tournament.

The final between Spain and Argentina topped the list with 245.4 million viewers, representing 68.6 percent of the adult population across the region. That one is now the most-watched broadcast in beIN SPORTS' history. But the Egypt-Argentina number is the one that tells you something about where football in the Arab world is heading.

Egypt showed up — twice

The Pharaohs appeared in the tournament's top 10 most-watched matches not once, but twice. Their round-of-32 win over Australia drew 157.1 million viewers, ranking sixth overall. That's the result of Egypt doing something they had never done before: reaching the knockout stage of a World Cup. When history is being made, people watch.

The broader picture from beIN SPORTS' Ipsos-verified data is striking. The broadcaster recorded 6.2 billion cumulative television views across the 39-day tournament, with 22 matches individually clearing 100 million viewers — many of them kicking off at 1:00 am, 4:00 am, or 6:00 am Mecca time. People were setting alarms. That's not passive viewership.

Matches involving the eight Arab teams generated 2.1 billion cumulative views across 29 games. Morocco featured in the top 10 twice as well — their quarter-final defeat to France (151.6 million) and their round-of-16 meeting with Canada (149 million).

The rest of the top 10

  • Spain vs Argentina (Final): 245.4 million
  • Egypt vs Argentina (R16): 192.6 million
  • Argentina vs England (Semi-final): 171.3 million
  • Spain vs France (Semi-final): 168.8 million
  • England vs France (Third place): 162 million
  • Egypt vs Australia (R32): 157.1 million
  • Spain vs Portugal (R16): 152.1 million
  • Morocco vs France (Quarter-final): 151.6 million
  • Morocco vs Canada (R16): 149 million
  • Brazil vs Norway (R16): 138.3 million

beIN's digital platforms added another layer — 7.77 billion video views, 16.96 billion post impressions, 12.2 million new social media followers. The final alone generated 26 million YouTube views, peaking at 3.8 million concurrent viewers during Spain's trophy celebrations.

As managing director Mohammed Al Bader put it: "The achievement of 6.2 billion cumulative views over 39 days reflects football's exceptional place in the region." Hard to argue with that. The expanded 48-team format gave Arab nations more shots at the knockout rounds, and their audiences responded accordingly. Egypt's historic run didn't just matter on the pitch — it shifted the viewership ceiling for the entire region.
