Lucas Gourna-Douath's car ended up on its side Thursday morning on Millhouse Woods Lane — the same road where Hull City teammate Sorba Thomas had an accident just 20 days earlier. Same street. Same club. Different players. That's not a pattern you can ignore.
The incident happened at 8:30 AM. No injuries were reported, and Hull City confirmed as much, telling Reuters the club was "aware of images circulating on social media following a road traffic accident near the club's training ground and can confirm that no one was harmed in the incident."
The road to training is apparently the most dangerous part of the day
Millhouse Woods Lane leads directly to Hull's training ground and carries a 30 mph speed limit. Two accidents in three weeks on the same stretch raises an obvious question: is there something about that road — the surface, the layout, visibility at certain hours — that's catching drivers out?
Gourna-Douath is 23, a French midfielder who Hull will not want spending time on the sidelines for any reason. The good news is he walked away fine. The bad news is that Hull City's coaching staff now has to wonder whether players are arriving at sessions shaken before they've even laced their boots.
From a squad availability standpoint, two close calls in quick succession is the kind of thing that gets a welfare meeting scheduled fast. Hull are in the Premier League — every fit body matters, and every distraction from preparation costs something, even if it doesn't show up on the injury list.
The club hasn't publicly addressed why this stretch of road keeps causing problems. That's probably the next conversation worth having.
