How Chicago Is Celebrating the 2026 World Cup (And You Should Be Too).

Chicago isn't hosting a single World Cup match, but the city isn't sitting this one out. From a 360-degree jumbotron in the West Loop to free chicken for anyone wearing a jersey, there's enough going on that you won't need a plane ticket to feel it.

The headline venues

Chicago Fire and Recess have set up what might be the city's most committed World Cup HQ. The West Loop bar and event space has a full 360-degree jumbotron running throughout the tournament, with themed watch parties, giveaways, and merch drops scheduled across the 39-day run. Grab a free mobile pass before showing up — table and cabana reservations are encouraged if you want to actually sit down.

Tree House Chicago in River North has gone further, rebranding entirely as OLÉ — a pop-up space draped in jerseys, flags, and memorabilia from teams across the tournament. Open to all ages until 8pm Friday through Sunday, then 21+ after that. Walk-ins are welcome, but a table reservation is the smarter play.

Scotland fans have a very specific reason to be out Saturday night: the Scots face Haiti at 8pm, their first World Cup appearance since 1998. The Scottish Festival and Highland Games is hosting a big-screen watch party — 10,000 bagpipers, a kilt contest, and a footballing nation finally back on the global stage. Tickets required.

Free food, free beer, and a $10,000 prize

Most weekday matches kick off during Chicago working hours, but Stella Artois has a workaround: order a Stella at any bar between 9am and 5pm during a weekday match, submit your receipt as an "expense report," and get reimbursed. It's a gimmick, but it's a functional one.

Nando's is giving out free chicken and chips to anyone who walks in wearing a team jersey between 5-8pm on Friday, June 12. Jason's Deli is running a USMNT goal-scoring promotion — every time the Americans find the net, loyalty points and free menu items follow.

The most unusual offer belongs to Immersive Gamebox, which has launched a motion-tracking soccer arcade game with a $10,000 grand prize. Wear a soccer jersey on June 12 and you get a free session. The $10,000 is real — the competition to win it almost certainly will be.

  • Scottish Festival & Highland Games: Scotland vs Haiti watch party, Saturday at 8pm, ticketed
  • Stella Artois expense report: Weekday matches, 9am–5pm, submit receipt for reimbursement
  • Nando's free meal: June 12, 5–8pm, jersey required
  • Jason's Deli USMNT promotion: Free items and loyalty points per USMNT goal
  • Immersive Gamebox Whirl'd Cup: $10,000 prize, free session on June 12 in a jersey

The final on July 19 even has its own parallel event — WhirlyBall is running a Whirl'd Cup tournament alongside the match, with a shootout competition and soccer activations while the real thing plays out on screen. Chicago may not be on the FIFA fixture list, but it's making a decent case for itself anyway.
