Ronaldo 'Likes' Mourinho's 2012 Comments Putting Him Above Messi.

The Messi vs Ronaldo debate just got a fresh spark. A 12-year-old video of José Mourinho defending Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi has gone viral again. Why? Because CR7 himself liked it on social media.

The clip shows Mourinho back in 2012 explaining why he thought Ronaldo deserved more credit than Messi. At the time, 'Mou' was managing Real Madrid with Ronaldo in his squad. He knew both players well, having faced Messi's Barcelona countless times.

The timing was interesting. Ronaldo had scored 58 goals that year with Real Madrid. Messi? He'd smashed the world record with 91 goals in a calendar year. The Argentine won the Ballon d'Or, but Mourinho wasn't having it.

What Mourinho Actually Said

The Portuguese coach didn't hold back in his interview with A Bola. He made a clear case for why Ronaldo's achievements were harder to pull off than Messi's.

"I still say it's harder to be Cristiano than Messi," Mourinho stated. He pointed out that Messi grew up at Barcelona with the same teammates. Meanwhile, Ronaldo moved to England and joined a Manchester United team in crisis.

Mourinho also highlighted the tactical differences. Messi played as a number 9 in a small area close to goal with less defensive work. Ronaldo operated as a winger who had to defend and track back.

"How can a winger score the same number of goals as a center forward?" Mourinho asked. He described Ronaldo running back to defend in the 94th minute and fighting in his own box during set pieces.

Why This Matters Now

The account @cr7historical reshared the video recently. Football fans quickly noticed Ronaldo had liked it. That small digital gesture was enough to restart the eternal debate among millions of fans worldwide.

Some fans recalled that Mourinho changed his tune in 2019, calling Messi "the God of football." But that doesn't matter to those still picking sides in this legendary rivalry.

Both players are in the twilight of their careers now. Yet every little gesture they make still creates global conversations. For betting markets and football discussions, their influence remains massive even as younger stars emerge.

The truth is simple: we'll never get a consensus on who's better. But there's no doubt both Messi and Ronaldo belong in the conversation for greatest of all time. Their rivalry has defined an entire generation of football.
