"I see him more like in a Los Angeles FC or something like that." That's Brek Shea's verdict on where Harry Kane eventually lands if — and it's still a big if — the Bayern Munich striker ever makes the jump to MLS.
Shea, who racked up over 80 international appearances across various levels of the USMNT system and played for clubs on both sides of the Atlantic, knows the MLS landscape as well as anyone. Speaking to Jackpot City Casino, he pushed back on the obvious Inter Miami narrative, even while acknowledging why Florida might appeal to a man who famously loves his golf.
"I know he likes golf, so being in Florida would be great for him, but I think Inter Miami's very South American and very Spanish spoken throughout the club — in and out," Shea said. "Maybe besides David Beckham."
Why LAFC makes more sense than it sounds
It's not a bad call. LAFC has built a reputation as one of MLS's more serious clubs — proper infrastructure, a sharp front office, a stadium that generates genuine atmosphere. If Kane wants a soft landing that still feels like professional football rather than a retirement party, Los Angeles fits better than the Messi-Suárez circus in Miami, however entertaining that circus has been.
Kane is 33. By the time a move to MLS becomes realistic — end of his Bayern contract, a natural wind-down — he'll be nudging 35 or beyond. His market value as a betting prospect for MLS Golden Boot would still be worth watching early in any potential stint. A striker with his consistency doesn't just switch off.
The NFL angle is a stretch, but Shea's buying it
Shea also endorsed Kane's publicly floated idea of transitioning to the NFL as a kicker once soccer is done. "I hope he comes and plays MLS for a few years and then goes NFL if that's his trajectory," he said.
Kane has pointed to his penalty record as a potential foundation for kicking. It's a fun story. It's also, realistically, an enormous ask. NFL kickers are specialists who train for years, and even that doesn't guarantee longevity in a league that discards specialists ruthlessly. Kane would be pushing 40 by the time any of this could happen. The body takes a different kind of beating in American football, even for kickers.
For now, Kane is still Bayern's problem to keep happy — and their best player by a distance. Any MLS speculation is a future chapter, not a present one. But if that chapter ever opens, Shea's making his pick: LAFC, not South Beach.
