Their record finish remains third place — earned in Russia in 2018, when Roberto Martinez's squad beat England 2-0 in the third-place playoff. De Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku, Courtois. That team had everything except the final two wins when it mattered most.
Before that, Belgium reached the semifinals in 1986, only to lose to Argentina and then France in the bronze medal match. Fourth place. A result that stood as their high-water mark for over three decades.
