The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase kicks off on September 8, and the draw that sets the whole thing in motion happens on August 27. Mark both dates down.
Thirty-six teams enter the league phase. Twenty-four come out the other side into the knockouts. Eight play for their lives in the playoff round. That margin — twelve teams eliminated before the last-sixteen even begins — is what makes the league phase matter so much more than the old group stage ever did.
The full league phase schedule
Matchweek 1 spreads across three days — September 8, 9, and 10 — before settling into the standard Tuesday-Wednesday rhythm from there. Every team plays eight games across roughly five months, with the final matchweek locked to Wednesday, January 27 alone. No staggered finishes, no back-room advantages. Everyone plays at the same time.

The knockout playoff round begins February 16, 2027. The top eight from the league phase skip that entirely and go straight to the Round of 16, which starts March 9. Two separate draws govern the knockouts — one on January 29 to set the playoff bracket, another on February 26 for the last sixteen.
