Messi on the walls, sky blue everywhere: Inside Argentina's Kansas City World Cup hotel

The Origin Hotel in Kansas City didn't just welcome Argentina — it became Argentina. Sky blue and white on every wall, murals of Messi and Dibu Martinez in the hallways, and "Vamos Argentina" printed across the building's exterior. Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association, posted a video on X showing the transformation, and it's genuinely impressive.

This is where the reigning world champions will be living for the next two weeks as they build toward their title defense.

A base camp built for champions

The five-story, 118-room hotel sits in Kansas City's Berkley Riverfront area, constructed in 2024 in one of the city's fastest-developing districts. It's 20 minutes from Argentina's training grounds and 15 minutes from the Chiefs' stadium — which is where the Albiceleste will kick off their campaign on June 16th against Algeria.

Inside, messages like "Juntos otra vez" (together again), "Coronado de gloria" (crowned in glory), and "Todos juntos" (all together) line the corridors. Messi, Dibu, and Julian Alvarez get the most wall space. Given what those three did in Qatar, that seems about right.

After their Kansas City opener, Argentina head to Dallas for their final two group matches — against Austria at the Cowboys' stadium on June 22nd, then Jordan on June 27th. Assuming they advance — and at this point, betting against it is a fool's errand — they could return to Kansas City for a Round of 32 or quarterfinal.

What this means on the pitch

A settled, comfortable base camp matters more than people give it credit for. Argentina's squad isn't young and restless — it's experienced and deliberate. Messi is 37 during this tournament. Routine, recovery, and familiarity with surroundings aren't luxuries for this group. They're part of the plan.

Kansas City going full Albiceleste sends a message too: this city wants Argentina back deep into the knockout rounds. Given the commercial pull of Messi alone, you can understand why.

Argentina open against Algeria on June 16th. The walls already know the result they want.
