Netflix's Mourinho Documentary Pulls Back the Curtain on Two Decades of Winning

"You don't do a documentary with a guy that wins nothing." José Mourinho said it himself, and honestly, it's hard to argue. Netflix drops its three-part Mourinho documentary on August 11 — and if the Beckham series is anything to go by, this one is going to land hard.

The same production team is back: double Academy Award-winner John Battsek producing, BAFTA and Emmy-nominated director Joe Pearlman — the man behind Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now — directing. Two years of filming went into this. The anchor point is Porto's 2004 Champions League triumph, the night that turned a relatively unknown Portuguese coach into a figure the football world couldn't stop watching or arguing about.

Who's talking — and what they're saying

The interview roster is genuinely stacked. Sir Alex Ferguson. John Terry, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Petr Čech. Zlatan Ibrahimović, Iker Casillas, Javier Zanetti, Samuel Eto'o, Marcelo, and Luís Figo. These aren't talking heads brought in to pad a runtime — these are people who played under him, against him, or clashed with him at the highest level.

The documentary traces the full arc: Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan's treble season, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham, Roma, and now Fenerbahçe. His rivalry with Pep Guardiola gets revisited. So do the exits — plural, messy, and usually loud.

The framing device is Mourinho walking viewers through his personal trophy room — pulling out a replica Premier League trophy, boots signed by Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo's first professional shirt. It's classic Mou: the drama is curated, the confidence is total.

What 20 years actually means

His own summary: "I started winning in 2003, and my last title was 2022. So it was 20 years winning." That's not bluster — that's a factual résumé that very few managers in the sport's history can match. Whether you find him compelling or exhausting, the record demands engagement.

For anyone tracking his next move — Fenerbahçe or beyond — this documentary will shape the narrative around his reputation heading into whatever comes next. Perception drives interest, and interest drives offers.

Mourinho hits Netflix worldwide on August 11.
