"It's a shame, because I'm working really hard to lose weight." Wayne Rooney isn't amused by the speculation — and he's making sure everyone knows it.
The former England captain, now 40, has hit back at claims he used weight-loss injections to shed the pounds, insisting the results are down to good old-fashioned exercise. The rumours followed his noticeably slimmer appearance in recent months, but Rooney was in no mood to let them stick.
The nose job had nothing to do with vanity
While he was at it, Rooney also cleared up the mystery around his recent nose surgery. It wasn't cosmetic. He broke it twice during his playing career — first in a 2015 FA Cup match for Manchester United against Preston North End, then again during his time at DC United against Colorado Rapids in MLS — and eventually one side stopped working properly.
"I couldn't blow one side out of my nose and so I had it fixed," he said. Practical as ever.
Coleen had her own motivation for pushing him to get it done. "I tried to get him to do it because of his snoring," she said. He'd put the surgery off for years before finally going through with it after the 2026 World Cup, later revealing on his Stick to United podcast that he was recovering with plastic tubes in his nose.
The Real Rooneys launches on Disney+
All of this comes ahead of the launch of The Real Rooneys, a 10-part Disney+ documentary that premiered Thursday. It follows Wayne, Coleen, and their four sons — Kai (16), Klay (13), Kit (10), and Cass (8) — through a transitional period that saw Rooney step back from football management and lean into media work.
Whether the series shifts public perception of football's most scrutinised couple is another question. For now, Rooney's message is simple: the weight's gone because he earned it, and the nose works again. That's the story.
