Seven thousand hours of assembly. 1.3 million bricks. One very golden trophy sitting in the middle of Rockefeller Plaza — and it's not going anywhere until the World Cup Final on July 19.

LEGO's giant replica of the FIFA World Cup Trophy is now the most eye-catching landmark at the official FIFA Fan Village in New York, and it earns that status. Originally built in the Czech Republic over eight months, the structure was disassembled, shipped across the Atlantic, and put back together piece by piece in one of the most visited public spaces in the United States.

More than a marketing stunt

The trophy was unveiled by a Brazilian legend and two-time World Cup champion — a fitting choice for something designed to connect generations of football fans. His take was direct: "Kids get together on the street to play soccer, kids get together at home to set up a Lego cup. Look how important this is, how much it brings together."

That's the genuine appeal here. This isn't just corporate branding dressed up as celebration. LEGO has been deliberately expanding into sports — building cars for F1 drivers, now anchoring a World Cup fan zone — and the strategy is working precisely because it targets the emotional entry points: children seeing something for the first time, fans who grew up building sets now watching their kids do the same thing in front of a six-foot golden trophy.

Senior designer Christophe Vietti put it plainly: "The awe in the eyes of the kids seeing it in Rockefeller Center confirms we are inspiring the next generation of football fans and future Lego builders."

The backdrop matters

The 2026 World Cup is being hosted across the US, Canada, and Mexico, and New York — despite not hosting matches — has positioned itself as the cultural epicenter of the tournament through events like this. With the quarter-finals still being decided (France face Morocco on Friday), the trophy display will run through some of the most watched football on the planet over the next few weeks.

Rockefeller Plaza doesn't need help drawing a crowd. But 1.3 million golden bricks certainly don't hurt.
