A Child and Adult Are Dead After a Vehicle Drove Through a Soccer Game in Wichita, Kansas.

A child and an adult were killed Saturday afternoon when a vehicle drove directly into an active soccer game at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas. Multiple others were transported to hospital. The driver was taken into custody.

Calls started coming into 911 shortly before 3:30 p.m. local time. When first responders arrived, two people were already dead at the scene. Police Captain Aaron Moses confirmed there were "multiple other casualties" without specifying exact numbers or the severity of injuries.

What we know so far

The investigation is in its early stages. Police have not confirmed whether the incident was intentional, and two minors were reported to have been in the vehicle at the time — a detail that raises more questions than it answers.

The Stryker Sports Complex is a city-run facility with 11 turf fields. All events there have been cancelled. The Kansas State High School Activities Association suspended its scheduled flag football state championship and all other matches through the weekend — a decision that underscores just how seriously authorities are treating the situation.

Wichita Mayor Lily Wu called it a "tragic incident" and said she was "heartbroken." Kansas Governor Laura Kelly offered state resources and extended condolences to the victims' families. The Wichita Police Department has asked anyone with video footage of the incident to submit it to investigators.

This was a community sports facility on a Saturday afternoon — families, children, people watching a game. The ages of those killed have not yet been released. An investigation is ongoing.
