Harry Redknapp is back in the headlines, and it's not just because his horse is running in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. The 79-year-old Premier League legend has been linked with a sensational return to Tottenham Hotspur as the club battles to avoid the unthinkable - relegation.
Spurs are in serious trouble under new boss Igor Tudor, who's lost all four of his opening matches. That's got fans and pundits alike wondering if the club might turn to a familiar face to steady the ship. Redknapp previously guided Tottenham into the Champions League and is still beloved by many supporters.
But 'Arry himself has poured cold water on the speculation. Speaking at the Cheltenham Festival, he admitted: "I've been asked a few times if I'd go back to Spurs and it's probably not going to happen, is it? Would I go back? Of course I would, but I doubt very much it's going to happen."
He's got his hands full anyway. His horse, The Jukebox Man, is confirmed to run in Friday's Cheltenham Gold Cup with a genuine chance of winning. "My only concern at the minute is The Jukebox Man in the Gold Cup, I'm nothing to do with Spurs any more," he said.
Redknapp's Impressive Fortune
The former West Ham and Portsmouth manager has done very well for himself over the years. His net worth now stands at an estimated £13.4 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. That's thanks to some lucrative managerial contracts and various endorsements since retirement.
His final contract with Spurs was reportedly worth close to £3 million annually. When he took over at QPR, that deal was worth around £10 million. Not bad for a lad who started out playing for West Ham back in 1965.
Wife Sandra's Health Battles
Behind every successful man, as they say, and Harry's wife Sandra has been by his side since 1968. The couple met when they were just 17 in their local pub. Harry's devotion to her is legendary - he once said on I'm a Celebrity: "I ring her ten times a day. She's my life."
But their love story has faced some frightening moments. In 2018, Sandra was rushed to hospital with sepsis, a life-threatening form of blood poisoning. "It was very scary," Harry told the BBC. "Otherwise, she could have been in a lot of trouble. It really is a killer."
Harry later launched a sepsis awareness campaign after Sandra survived. Then in 2022, she battled Covid and struggled to breathe. "The symptoms weren't good, if I'm truthful," Harry told The Mirror. "You start to think about all kinds of sinister things."
As for Tottenham's future, Redknapp isn't optimistic. "They've got it all on to stay up, it's going to be hard," he said. With Nottingham Forest and West Ham both playing well, Spurs face a genuine fight for Premier League survival. For punters looking at the relegation market, that's definitely worth noting. "I hope Spurs stay up and I hope West Ham stay up," Redknapp added - though Spurs haven't been in touch about a return.
