Women's financial platform Lxme has signed on as the title sponsor of the Indian Women's League in a multi-year deal with Capri Sports — the company that holds a 15-year commercial and marketing rights agreement with the All India Football Federation for both the IWL and IWL 2. No figures were disclosed, but the timing matters: this is the first major brand partnership since Capri locked in that long-term AIFF deal.

Whether you read that as genuine momentum or a slow start depends on your expectations. Either way, having a brand in the building is better than not.

A season worth watching on and off the pitch

The 2026-27 IWL kicks off November 13, with eight clubs playing 56 matches across Kolkata, Jamshedpur and Bengaluru before the final fixtures wrap up January 23, 2027. Defending champions East Bengal FC are the team to beat — they won 13 matches and lost just once in their title-winning 2025-26 campaign. Their striker Fazila Ikwaput scored 20 goals that season. That's not a total a defence forgets easily.

Joining East Bengal are Sethu FC, Kickstart FC, Nita Football Academy, Gokulam Kerala FC and Garhwal United FC, along with promoted sides HOPS FC and Juba Sangha FC, who finished first and second in IWL 2 respectively. The double round-robin format — introduced in 2023-24 — means every club faces every other team twice. No hiding, no easy brackets.

  • East Bengal FC — defending champions, 13 wins in 2025-26
  • Sethu FC, Kickstart FC, Gokulam Kerala FC, Garhwal United, Nita Football Academy
  • HOPS FC and Juba Sangha FC — promoted from IWL 2

The commercial case Capri is making

Capri Sports director Jinisha Sharma framed this bluntly: "We've always believed that women's sport is good business." That's the pitch to future sponsors — not charity, not optics, but a return on investment. Lxme, a platform built around women's financial independence, fits that framing cleanly. The brand alignment is logical even if the announced programmes remain vague.

What's absent from the announcement is specifics — no activation plans, no visibility targets, no player-facing initiatives detailed. The rhetoric is there. The follow-through is what the IWL actually needs.

East Bengal's title defence is the story on the pitch. The commercial architecture Capri is building around it might be the bigger story long-term.
