"To be featured on the cover of an EA Sports FC title for the first time is a very special moment for me." Kylian Mbappé said it himself — and given what he's done over the past two seasons, EA didn't exactly have to think hard about this one.
Electronic Arts has confirmed the Real Madrid forward as the cover athlete for EA Sports FC 27 Ultimate Edition. It's his first time fronting an EA Sports FC title specifically, and his return to the franchise cover after four years away.
What Mbappé did to earn the spot
This wasn't a marketing decision dressed up as a merit one. Mbappé has finished as La Liga's top scorer in both of his seasons at Real Madrid. He claimed the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League Golden Boot with 15 goals in the competition. He's now the World Cup's all-time leading goalscorer and the first player to win the tournament's Golden Boot twice.
That's a CV that justifies a cover. No argument needed.
He'll also appear on EA Sports FC Mobile, extending a partnership with the franchise that has clearly survived the turbulence of club moves and off-pitch noise. EA knows what they have: the most recognisable active footballer on the planet, who is still — based on the numbers — performing at that level.
What's coming next
The cover reveal is the opening move in a week of EA Sports FC 27 content. The official gameplay trailer drops on Thursday, July 23 at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET. For anyone tracking the FC series closely — or with a financial interest in gaming stocks — that's the date that actually matters.
Mbappé on the cover sets the tone. The gameplay reveal will tell us whether FC 27 has anything new to say.
