"If USA wins the World Cup WE CALLING IT SOCCER FOREVER! FULL STOP PERIOD." That's MrBeast, 8 million views later, having accidentally reignited one of the internet's most exhausting debates — and, credit where it's due, doing it at exactly the right moment.
Because the USMNT is actually doing something. Back-to-back wins at a World Cup for the first time since 1930. Four goals against Paraguay, a clean sheet against Australia without their captain. Six points, top of Group D, and a knockout berth already secured. The context for MrBeast's post isn't delusion — it's momentum.
The results back up the optimism
Mauricio Pochettino's side beat Paraguay 4-1 at Los Angeles Stadium, then dispatched Australia 2-0 in Seattle four days later — and did it without Christian Pulisic, who's still working through a calf injury. Folarin Balogun forced an own goal inside 11 minutes. Alex Freeman doubled it before halftime. Against Australia, the US controlled 62% of possession and completed nearly 450 passes — more than double what their opponents managed.
"The versatility of this team is insane, to be honest," Tyler Adams said after the match. "There are guys that aren't playing right now that can play a major role. There's a selflessness to the team."
That's not a squad papering over cracks. That's depth.
The internet wasn't buying it
Still, MrBeast's post drew the expected pile-on. "Bro thinks they can go past round of 16," read one of the sharper responses, with a dig at the tournament's political backdrop thrown in for extra bite. Another fan tried to flip it entirely: "If you don't win it, you call it 'football' forever. Deal?"
Fair point, honestly. If you're making bets, you should have skin on both sides.
The thing is, the USMNT hasn't faced a genuine heavyweight yet. Group D was manageable. The knockout rounds won't be. Anyone pricing them for a deep run should be aware they're betting on a team yet to be truly tested — Pulisic not fully fit and a squad that's never been here before at this level of expectation.
They play Türkiye on June 25 to wrap up the group stage. After that, the real exam starts.
"We kind of need to put a 24-hour rule on things," Adams said. "When it's time to work, we got to go back to work."
Probably good advice for MrBeast too.
