Ronaldo's Coming Home to Get Married — Funchal Cathedral, Savoy Palace, the Full Spectacle.

Cristiano Ronaldo is getting married this weekend, and he's doing it in Funchal — the Madeira city that made him, and that he's spent a career putting on the map.

The 41-year-old and longtime partner Georgina Rodríguez, 32, will exchange vows at the Cathedral of Funchal before the reception moves to the five-star Savoy Palace hotel. According to The Sun, hotel guests have already been told that two full floors and several bar areas will be closed on Friday and Saturday. This isn't a quiet affair.

Why Funchal matters

The venue choice says something. Funchal has a bronze statue of Ronaldo. There's a hotel that bears his name. And it's the city he left at 11 years old — sharing a single room with his siblings before heading to Sporting CP's academy — to chase a career that eventually made him worth an estimated $1.2 to $1.4 billion.

Coming back to get married there isn't branding. It's personal.

Earlier reports had placed the wedding at the Quinta da Regaleira estate in Sintra, but those quickly fell apart when the historic estate stayed fully open to tourists. Funchal was always the more plausible call — and the more meaningful one.

Georgina has been doing the pre-wedding press herself

Ahead of the ceremony, the couple has already landed in Portugal. Georgina has been active on social media — a beach solo shoot, a family photo with Ronaldo and 16-year-old Cristiano Jr., and multiple close-ups of a diamond engagement ring that clearly isn't meant to be subtle.

She's not hiding the moment. Neither is he. For a man who has spent two decades as the most scrutinized footballer on the planet, a wedding on his home island — surrounded by family, with the cathedral bells of Funchal ringing — is about as close to a private statement as Cristiano Ronaldo gets.
