USMNT 2026 World Cup Roster Predictions: Who Makes Pochettino's 26?

Mauricio Pochettino reveals his 26-man USMNT roster on May 26. The World Cup starts June 11. That's not much runway — and the decisions he makes in the next few weeks will define whether this American generation actually delivers on a decade's worth of promise.

Christian Pulisic leads the attack. That's non-negotiable. Around him, Weston McKennie and Malik Tillman are expected to feature, with Tim Weah's pace and Diego Luna's creativity giving Pochettino real variety in the final third. At striker, Folarin Balogun and Ricardo Pepi are the projected starters — though Brian White is pushing hard on the back of recent club form and could squeeze out a more established name.

The midfield question nobody's fully answered

Tyler Adams is expected to captain the side, fitness permitting. That caveat matters. Adams has spent more time in treatment rooms than on pitches lately, and if he's not fully sharp, Pochettino has a genuine problem in the engine room.

Tanner Tessmann and Sebastian Berhalter are the names emerging behind him. Johnny Cardoso's injury opened a door, and Aidan Morris and Cristian Roldan are competing for what's left. It's a midfield that could be excellent with Adams fit, or decidedly thin without him. That uncertainty alone makes USMNT group-stage odds worth a second look.

At the back, Antonee Robinson and Sergino Dest are the projected fullbacks, with Chris Richards and Tim Ream expected to anchor the center. Auston Trusty and Mark McKenzie are currently favored for the remaining center-back spots, though nothing is locked in. Alex Freeman and Max Arfsten round out a defensive group that's functional but not frightening.

Goalkeeping is the one position without real drama

Matt Freese is the expected starter. Matt Turner brings international pedigree as the backup. Chicago Fire's Chris Brady is the third name — young, still developing, more of a long-term call-up than a genuine competitor for minutes in this tournament.

The Americans open against Paraguay on June 12, with two friendlies scheduled beforehand. Playing a home World Cup should be an advantage. Whether this squad is built to capitalize on it is the question Pochettino's selection will answer.

Predicted USMNT Squad:

  • Goalkeepers: Matt Freese, Matt Turner, Chris Brady
  • Defenders: Antonee Robinson, Sergino Dest, Tim Ream, Chris Richards, Auston Trusty, Mark McKenzie, Alex Freeman, Max Arfsten
  • Midfielders: Tyler Adams, Tanner Tessmann, Sebastian Berhalter, Aidan Morris, Cristian Roldan
  • Attackers: Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Malik Tillman, Tim Weah, Diego Luna, Gio Reyna, Brendan Aaronson, Folarin Balogun, Ricardo Pepi, Brian White
