Celtic are looking for a new manager again, and a familiar name has shot to the top of the list. Robbie Keane, the former Liverpool and Tottenham striker, is now the leading candidate to take charge at Celtic Park this summer.

The club has had a crazy season. Brendan Rodgers left in controversial fashion, then Wilfried Nancy came in and won just two of his eight games. Celtic panicked and brought back Martin O'Neill in January to steady the ship.

O'Neill has done exactly what was asked. At 74 years old, he's got Celtic back fighting for the Scottish Premiership title alongside Rangers and Hearts. But everyone knew this was temporary - the club always planned to find a permanent boss in the summer.

From Striker to Successful Manager

Keane might be remembered as a goalscorer, but he's been quietly building an impressive CV as a manager. After working with Ireland's national team, he took over at Maccabi Tel Aviv and won the Israeli league title in his first full season.

He didn't stop there. Keane moved to Hungarian giants Ferencvaros and delivered another league title last season. They're still competing in Europe too, which has really caught Celtic's attention.

For punters looking at next season's Scottish Premiership, this appointment could be huge. Keane's teams play attacking football with solid organisation - exactly what Celtic need to reclaim dominance. If he gets the job, expect Celtic's title odds to shorten considerably.

The Liverpool Connection

Many fans still remember Keane's brief spell at Liverpool. He joined from Spurs in 2008 with massive expectations, but things never really clicked under Rafael Benitez. He scored against PSV in the Champions League but couldn't nail down a regular spot.

By January 2009, he was back at Tottenham. Despite the short stay, that Liverpool connection adds an extra layer of intrigue to this story.

Celtic aren't rushing into this decision though. Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou is being considered, and Craig Bellamy's name is in the mix too - though Wales' World Cup play-offs complicate things for him.

The club also plans a major squad overhaul this summer. Recent transfer decisions haven't worked out, and there's recognition that Celtic need a complete reset. Keane would inherit big expectations but also massive opportunity at one of Britain's biggest clubs.

If this happens, it'll be another fascinating chapter for Keane - returning to Celtic Park where he once played, but this time calling the shots from the dugout.
